Check out the NM Attorney General, Gary King's internet Safety for teens guide:

What you can do to help protect your child from sexual abuse:
1. Talk to your kids. Have a "no secrets" rule in your family! (Call gifts "surprises.") Ask your child to tell you right away if another adult or a child asks your child to not tell Mom and Dad something! Listen to your kids when they do open up to you.

2. Set clear rules about privacy in the home (in the bathroom, shower, when changing clothes) and respect your child's privacy!

3. Tell your child the right names for body parts (not slang words) so if something happens, your child can tell adults about it. Let your children know when they are old enough to not need "help" in the bathroom. Explain that adults never need children to "help" them go to the bathroom or change clothes.

4. Try to limit your child's risk for sexual abuse by knowing who they spend time with - adults and other (older) kids. Make sure all coaches, pastors, scout leaders, church youth volunteers, daycare or after school care adults are fingerprinted and background checked. If your child says he/she is uncomfortable around an adult, ask them to say more. Teach your children to trust their instincts!
